The scale and sophistication of SATG operations reflects a threat profile that is categorically different from opportunistic residential crime. In Houston, law enforcement linked more than 60 burglaries in the area to a single SATG network. A single hit in West University Place, a Houston suburb adjacent to Rice University, resulted in the theft of between $500,000 and $650,000 in jewelry and watches. The FBI recovered items stolen from Los Angeles-area victims, including actor Keanu Reeves, in Chile, reflecting the organized international nature of these operations.


The targeting methodology for SATGs is specific: they favor homes adjacent to golf courses, parks, and walking trails, environments that provide access routes and cover for approach. They use ladders to enter at the second level, bypassing ground-floor security. They use burner phones and rental vehicles to frustrate tracking. They concentrate on small, high-value items that travel easily, specifically jewelry, watches, and cash. The FBI has linked SATG operations to burglaries targeting Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Luka Doncic, and other high-profile individuals.


This isn't the threat profile that residential guard programs were designed for. A guard at the front gate does not catch an SATG team approaching across a golf course fairway at 2 AM. A camera on the front of the house does not cover the side yard where a ladder goes up to the second-floor window. The threat has evolved, and the security model has to evolve with it.

The broader personal security threat environment mirrors this trend. Median executive security spending increased 94.7% between 2020 and 2024, according to research published by ASIS International. One-third of S&P 500 companies now provide formal executive protection services. Executive targeting incidents doubled by the end of 2025 relative to 2024 levels. The elevated threat environment that corporate security teams have been responding to for two years is the same environment that UHNW individuals with high-profile business, wealth, or social visibility navigate every day.



Why Large Estate Security Is a Different Problem


A UHNW estate isn't a large house. It's a property with a specific set of security challenges that don't scale from standard residential security.


Acreage is the starting point. A property with multiple acres of grounds, gardens, outbuildings, guest structures, pool areas, and perimeter fencing creates a coverage geometry that no fixed camera system and no guard program can monitor continuously. The front of the house is covered. The camera above the front gate is working. What's behind the property, along the back fence line, in the garden path between the pool and the guest wing, in the parking area beside the staff entrance: those are the blind spots, and they're the environments where incidents develop.
